The Wolverine - Trailer

It's no secret that Wolverine's first solo outing was a critical disaster. Fortunately, for fans it did well enough at the box office to warrant a second outing. After some delays, where at one point even auteur Darren Aronofsky was attached to direct the second installment, Hugh Jackman's most well known character gets his chance at redemption.

Today debuts the trailer for The Wolverine. My first thoughts? It's good to see a comic book movie with scale. It's one issue I've always had with recent cinematic outings of comic book characters. Even The Avengers felt like it all shot against a green screen.

The story on the other hand looks like the common sophomore outing trope - reluctant hero chooses to give up powers for selfish reasons only to realise they are what make him who he is. By now, comic book adaptations have started falling into little story telling trappings but we're a forgiving audience who lap 'em up nonetheless.

Hopefully The Wolverine provides a good time when it releases in Singapore on the 25th of July 2013.
